It will feel like a rollercoaster, but now the good things in my life are from trusting myself, self-care, and surrounding myself with positive people to keep me going, as well as supporting them. At some point, you just have to stop listening to others and listen to your gut. I worked in the food industry for 11 years, I’m even a certified pastry chef. Luckily I learned college isn’t the one and only option. I didn’t do the best in school because I thought I’d never make it to college. I grew up with learning differences so my self-esteem was always low. There were times when I did give up and cry and cry. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?Įveryone will struggle at some point. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. Now, I’m sure clients wish I didn’t talk so much, but I’m very passionate about being a barber. Growing up, I was pretty quiet, so it was sort of a surprise to some when I wanted to go to hair school. Not only do I love what I do and try to stay up to date on men’s styles, but the relationships I make with my clients are great. I was working for a bit down in Houston with very talented barbers and thought I could never be as great as them. It has been a tough few years due to very low self-esteem. Halfway through cosmo school is when I realized I had a passion for the men’s grooming industry and only focused on men’s haircuts, and eventually I was able to use the straight razor. I graduated from Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School four years ago, and then Blade Craft Barber Academy three years ago. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
